Music and band

The Narwee Public School Band consists of members ranging from years 3-6.  Instrumentation of the band includes a standard drum kit, bass and acoustic guitar, piano and keyboards, male and female vocalists and tuned and un-tuned percussion, including xylophanes and glockenspiels.  The band focuses on Latin and African music.  However, the band’s repertoire contains many musically diverse elements and styles including contemporary pop music, funk, R&B and jazz.  The band is also heavily influenced by the multicultural make-up of its members, creating an exciting and musically diverse learning environment.

The skill and experience that each student gains from being a band member are invaluable and helps to maintain their enthusiasm for practice and commitment to their instrument.  The band meets every Tuesday to rehearse.

Students also have the opportunity to enrol in private classes with PMI (Primary Music Institute) for drums, keyboard or guitar lessons. Lessons are held once per week on school campus – typically during the school day. Enrolment is via PMI’s website (www.primarymusicinstitute.com.au).

Narwee PS has a strong music department.  Classes are also engaged in creative music lesson each week where they experience performance, listening and arranging activities that help them to understand the concepts of music such as duration, pitch, dynamics, tone colour and structure.  Students learn percussion & african drumming from a specialist music teacher. The drumming band performs at school events & always creates high energy to get the audience involved. Last year the percussion band accompanied the Annual Christmas Walk through Narwee shopping centre.
